Advanced LED Phototherapy for Healthier, Calmer, More Radiant Skin
The Dermalux Compact Lite is a professional LED phototherapy system that uses three clinically studied wavelengths of light — 415nm blue, 633nm red and 830nm near-infrared — to support the skin’s natural processes.
LED phototherapy works through photobiomodulation, a well-researched area of light-based therapy in which specific wavelengths of light interact with cells within the skin and underlying tissue. Different wavelengths penetrate to different depths and have different biological effects, allowing treatment to be tailored according to your individual skin concerns and goals.
At Lucia Medical Aesthetics, we use Dermalux to support concerns including blemish-prone skin, redness and inflammation, signs of ageing, dull or tired-looking skin, skin repair and overall skin health. The treatment is non-invasive, non-thermal and comfortable, with no needles, no intentional damage to the skin and no downtime.
Dermalux Compact Lite Treatment Guide & FAQS

The skin responds differently to different wavelengths of light. Dermalux Compact Lite allows us to select individual wavelengths or combinations of wavelengths according to the treatment objective.
415nm Blue Light
For blemish-prone and congested skin
Blue light at 415nm has been clinically studied in relation to acne and blemish-prone skin. Research has investigated its antibacterial effects and its ability to support improvements in inflammatory acne and clearer-looking skin.
633nm Red Light
For skin rejuvenation and repair
Red light at 633nm penetrates further into the skin and has been widely studied in relation to photobiomodulation, cellular activity and skin rejuvenation. Research has investigated its effects on skin quality, elasticity, collagen-related processes and the visible signs of ageing.
830nm Near-Infrared Light
For deeper-penetrating skin support
Near-infrared light at 830nm penetrates deeper into tissue than visible red light. It has been studied for its role in photobiomodulation, skin repair and regeneration, including research into the appearance and quality of ageing skin.
Why Three Wavelengths?
The ability to use each wavelength individually or in combination is one of the advantages of the Dermalux system.
Rather than using the same setting for every patient, your treatment can be adapted according to your skin concerns, treatment goals and the area being treated.
Depending on your individual skin concerns, Dermalux may be incorporated into your treatment plan to support:
- Blemish-prone and congested skin
- Redness and inflammatory skin concerns
- Signs of skin ageing
- Dull or tired-looking skin
- Skin repair and recovery
- Skin renewal and overall skin quality
- Post-treatment recovery, where clinically appropriate
- General skin health and maintenance
LED phototherapy has been extensively investigated across dermatology and aesthetic medicine, with clinical research exploring applications including acne, skin rejuvenation, inflammation and tissue repair.
At Lucia Medical Aesthetics, we believe that aesthetic technology should be supported by appropriate scientific evidence, safety standards and experienced clinical application.
Dermalux technology is built around specific wavelengths that have been the subject of clinical research. Photobiomodulation is an established area of light-based research, with studies investigating how different wavelengths may influence cellular activity and support processes involved in skin repair and regeneration.
The evidence base varies according to the wavelength, condition being treated and treatment protocol, which is why we take an individualised approach rather than presenting LED as a one-size-fits-all treatment.
Our aim is to use the technology appropriately, selecting the wavelength, treatment time and protocol according to your individual skin and treatment objectives.
One of the key characteristics of LED phototherapy is that it is non-invasive and non-thermal. Unlike treatments that deliberately create controlled injury or significant heat within the skin, LED delivers low-level light energy without breaking the skin’s surface.
Clinical studies of LED phototherapy have generally reported few and predominantly mild adverse effects, and the treatment is well tolerated by many patients. It does not typically involve the discomfort or downtime associated with more invasive procedures.
As with any light-based treatment, appropriate precautions are important. Before treatment, we assess your suitability and follow the manufacturer’s treatment and safety protocols, including appropriate eye protection where required.
LED is not suitable for everyone, and certain medications, medical conditions or light sensitivities may require additional assessment. Your practitioner will discuss your suitability during your consultation.
Dermalux Compact Lite is designed to be a comfortable treatment. You may experience a gentle warming sensation as the light is delivered to the skin, but treatment should not be painful.
There is no need for anaesthetic or numbing cream. Dermalux does not involve needles or intentional skin damage, and there is generally no downtime, allowing you to return to your normal activities afterwards.
LED phototherapy is not generally considered a one-off treatment for long-term skin concerns. Its effects are cumulative, with regular treatments used to support the skin’s natural processes over time.
Some patients notice that their skin looks fresher, brighter or more radiant following an individual treatment. When addressing concerns such as blemishes, redness or visible signs of ageing, however, a course of treatments is generally recommended for more progressive results.
At Lucia Medical Aesthetics, your treatment programme is tailored to your skin and goals. LED may be recommended as a standalone course, as an occasional treatment or alongside other aesthetic procedures where clinically appropriate.
Consistency, alongside a suitable home skincare routine, can help support the health and appearance of your skin between treatments.
The number and frequency of treatments will depend on your skin concerns, treatment goals and whether LED is being used alone or alongside another treatment.
For targeted concerns, a typical programme may involve 2–3 treatments per week for approximately four weeks, followed by maintenance treatments where appropriate. Your practitioner will recommend the frequency most suitable for you.
We can tailor your treatment programme around three approaches:
1. Activate — Intensive Course
For targeted skin concerns and longer-term skin improvement
A structured course may be recommended when the aim is to address a specific skin concern or support an overall improvement in skin quality.
Typically: 2–3 treatments per week, with the exact programme determined during consultation.
May be suitable for:
- Blemish-prone skin
- Redness and inflammatory skin concerns
- Supporting skin rejuvenation
- Improving overall skin quality
- Supporting skin repair and renewal
2. Boost — Skin Refresh
For a fresh, radiant-looking complexion
A single Dermalux treatment or short course can be incorporated into your skincare routine when you want to give your skin a refreshed appearance.
May be suitable for:
- Dull or tired-looking skin
- Supporting radiance
- Pre-event skin preparation
- General skin maintenance
- Supporting the appearance of temporary redness
While an individual treatment may provide a temporary visible boost, ongoing concerns generally require a consistent treatment programme.
3. Combine — Integrated Treatment
LED incorporated into your wider aesthetic treatment plan
Dermalux can also form part of an integrated treatment programme. Depending on the procedure being performed, LED may be used following treatment to support the skin’s natural recovery processes.
This may be considered for:
- Supporting post-treatment recovery
- Helping to calm the appearance of redness
- Supporting the skin following selected aesthetic procedures
- Complementing your wider skin health programme
The suitability and timing of LED alongside another treatment will always be assessed by your practitioner.
The Dermalux Compact Lite is not limited to facial treatments. Its adjustable three-panel design allows treatment of larger areas of the body, making it a versatile option for both facial and body skin concerns.
Depending on your individual needs, LED phototherapy may be used on areas including the:
- Face
- Neck
- Décolletage
- Chest
- Back
- Other suitable areas of the body
Different wavelengths can be selected according to the area being treated and the treatment objective. Blue, red and near-infrared light may be used individually or in combination to support skin health, calm the appearance of inflammation and support natural skin repair and regeneration.
Body treatments may be considered for concerns including blemish-prone skin on the back or chest, redness and inflammatory skin concerns, and skin recovery following selected treatments.
Dermalux is a British LED technology manufacturer, with its professional systems designed and manufactured in the UK. The technology has been developed specifically for professional skincare and aesthetic environments and uses clinically studied wavelengths.
The Compact Lite features a three-panel system designed to provide controlled LED treatment across the face and larger areas of the body.
At Lucia Medical Aesthetics, we combine this technology with a medically led approach, using your consultation and skin assessment to determine the most appropriate wavelength, treatment time and protocol for you.
There is no single LED protocol that is right for everyone.
During your consultation, we will assess your skin, discuss your concerns and goals, and determine whether Dermalux is appropriate for you. We can then select the most suitable wavelength or combination of wavelengths and recommend a treatment schedule based on your individual needs.
Whether you choose a structured course, an occasional skin boost or LED as part of a wider aesthetic treatment plan, our approach is centred on appropriate, evidence-informed use of the technology.
