Consultation for Advanced Facial Concerns in Thanet, Kent

Some facial concerns involve a complex combination of muscle activity, facial anatomy, skin quality and underlying health factors. During an advanced facial consultation, one of our nurses will take a medical history, assess the area of concern and discuss the options that may be appropriate. Recommendations vary between patients and may include no treatment, a non-prescription approach, referral to another healthcare professional or, where clinically appropriate, consideration of a prescription-only medicine. A consultation does not guarantee that treatment will be recommended or provided.

Facial movement and asymmetry

Facial movement and asymmetry can have several possible causes. Your nurse will assess the relevant muscles and surrounding facial structures before discussing whether any treatment or referral may be appropriate.

Jaw muscle activity

Concerns involving jaw clenching, tooth grinding or enlarged jaw muscles may require assessment by a dentist or another healthcare professional. The clinic may recommend seeking appropriate medical or dental advice before considering cosmetic treatment.

Excessive sweating

Excessive sweating can sometimes have an underlying medical cause. Patients may be advised to consult their GP before cosmetic options are considered.

Lower-face and neck concerns

The lower face and neck are anatomically complex areas. A consultation is required to assess the concern, discuss realistic expectations and determine whether treatment would be clinically appropriate.

Advanced Facial Concerns Consultation FAQs

Your clinician will discuss your concerns, take a relevant medical history and assess factors such as facial anatomy, muscle movement and skin quality. The purpose of the consultation is to determine whether any treatment would be appropriate and safe for you.

Recommendations will depend on your individual assessment. Options may include skincare, a non-prescription treatment, referral to another healthcare professional or no treatment. Where clinically appropriate, a prescription-only treatment may also be considered.

Botulinum toxin type A, commonly known by the brand name Botox®, is a prescription-only medicine. It may be considered as one possible option following consultation, but it will only be offered where a suitably qualified prescriber determines that it is appropriate.

Botulinum toxin type A temporarily affects communication between nerves and selected muscles. The response, extent and duration of any effect vary between individuals. Your clinician will explain what may reasonably be expected in your particular circumstances.

Possible effects can include discomfort, bruising, redness or swelling at the injection site, headache, asymmetry and temporary weakness in nearby muscles. Different treatment areas may involve different risks, which will be discussed fully during consultation before any decision is made.

Treatment may not be appropriate during pregnancy or breastfeeding, or for people with certain medical conditions, neurological disorders or medications. Suitability can only be determined following an individual medical assessment.

The duration varies according to the individual, the area involved and the treatment prescribed. Results and duration cannot be guaranteed, and your recommended follow-up will be discussed by your clinician.

No. The consultation may determine that treatment is unsuitable, unnecessary or that referral to another healthcare professional would be more appropriate.
